Guidelines for cycling through the Valley
In summary we encourage everyone to follow these guidelines
- Ride single file when climbing and descending Blue Mountains Hill, Wallaceville Hill and Mangaroa Hill.
- Keep left when climbing and signal to vehicles when it is safe for them to overtake you.
- Ride single file through the narrow gorge section or where there is no centre white line.
- Never ride more than 2 abreast.
- Teach riders at the back of your bunch to call “Car Up” and signal the car to pass when safe.
- Don’t discard your rubbish.
- Toilet stops to be made out of sight. Silverstream Village has a public toilet.
- Be considerate of vehicle traffic and local residents.
- Report any abusive behaviour or dangerous driving that places you and other cyclists at risk to the NZ Police (*555).

Onslow Tarbabies, Sunday 15 November 2015
The groups will be passing through the Valley around 10 am, Sunday 15th November. They are easily identifiable in the Onslow TarBaby cycle kit.
Our group is riding, north to south, from the Te Marua end, exiting either Wallaceville or Blue Mountains, depending on weather. Each group size will be limited to 12 riders and there may be up to 3-4 groups, separated by at least 500 m or more. We travel at around 28-32 km/hr.
This specific ride has always had a planned toilet stop near Harcourt Park before riding back out to SH 2 near Birchville.
The weather forecast for Sunday is not pleasant so there may be far less numbers than I’ve indicated above. However, it’s two weeks out from the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge and is generally the last long ride the group does so numbers will be good if the weather holds.
Regards
Onslow Tarbabies
